System requirements
-
Apple: iOS 10+; iPhone version 6 or later.
-
Android: Android 8+; Optimized for Samsung Galaxy devices (performance may vary on other Android devices). Note that the app is not compatible with these devices: Huawei, One Plus, ZTE and Nokia.
How it works
Set up: Attaching the sensor to your umbrella
For best results, follow below placement for sensor, depending on whether you have a compact folded umbrella or long-shafted umbrella:
-
Remove the plastic pouch from the box and take out the sensor and other contents.
-
Pull out the battery tab from the sensor. The sensor’s LED light should flash for 10 seconds.
-
Inside the plastic pouch are 3 circular snaps (black, white, clear). This snap will be used to secure the sensor to your umbrella’s canopy. Choose your preferred color snap for your umbrella.
-
Position the sensor on the underside of the canopy:
-
While holding the sensor in place under the umbrella, place the snap on the outer side of the canopy directly on top of the sensor. Press very hard to secure the sensor in place as shown:
-
If you are having trouble pressing the plastic snap over the sensor, use this small (optional) tool included in the pouch.
Download the free Davek Loss Alert app and sync to your umbrella
-
Download our free app (Davek Loss Alert) on your phone (via Apple App store or Google Play).
-
Start the app. Make sure you ALLOW all permission requests (location, notifications, etc.) during first launch. (Note: If you do not allow all requests, the app will not work. If you do not recall if you allowed these permissions after first launch, delete and reinstall the app again). For Location Permission, be sure to choose "Always Allow".
FOR APPLE IPHONE (as of OS 13.1.2 or later):
To set Location Permission to "Always Allow", follow the steps below:
- Go to Settings
- Scroll down list of apps and select Davek
- Tap on Location
- Tap on Always
-
Place the phone near the umbrella (< 2 ft).
-
To pair the umbrella to the app, slide the ON/OFF button to ON. You should receive an activation message within 10 seconds: “You are now connected to your umbrella".
You are now all set. You will be receiving an exit alert within 60 seconds after you walk out of umbrella’s range (approx. 30 ft). Once you receive an exit notification, you will need to return back to umbrella to reset the alarm. When you get close within < 2ft. of your umbrella, your phone will automatically reconnect within 30 seconds and send you a new activation alert.
The app/umbrella will remain paired unless you proactively turn off the connection (by switching the ON/OFF switch to OFF).
The sensor will go into sleep mode when the umbrella is unmoved after four hours and will wake automatically when the umbrella is picked up.
Your Security & Privacy
If you are using an iPhone, you may periodically receive the following notification:
What it means:
Periodically, the app will run a quick location update to the phone. This action will keep the app active while in the background and confirm if there is a nearby active sensor/umbrella. Selecting Always Allow will permit the app to connect automatically whenever you pick up your umbrella, without the need to turn the system on manually (similar to how your phone will auto-sync to your car when you turn on the engine).
Does the app share my location info?
No, the app is a one-way transmission application—it only receives information and does not send, thus your location is never shared. However, if you prefer to turn this off, swipe the app’s ON/OFF switch to OFF to disable all location updates. You’ll need to remember to manually turn the system back on, however, when you want to resume umbrella tracking.

How do I turn Loss Alert on?
Pick up umbrella and hold it near your phone (< 2ft). Start the app and slide the ON/OFF switch to ON. The system should pair to your umbrella within 10 seconds and send a notification "You are now connected to your umbrella." The system will remain paired until you turn the system off.
How do I turn Loss Alert off?
To turn off Loss Alert, slide the ON/OFF switch to OFF. This will unpair the umbrella from the app and disconnect. To reactivate tracking, you must turn the app back to ON. The sensor will go into sleep mode when the umbrella is unmoved for several hours and will wake automatically when the umbrella is picked up.
Do I need to turn on my app whenever I want to track my umbrella?
No. Once you pair the umbrella to the app, it will remain paired until you turn the system off. The app will thereafter automatically connect within 30 seconds whenever you pick up the umbrella.
What are “false notifications?”
False notifications are alerts that are sent inadvertently when you are still within proximity of the umbrella. This sometimes occurs when the radio signal from your umbrella is interrupted by obstacles, such as metal walls, doors, or even crowds. False notifications may occur if your phone is completely covered by your hands. Also, many phones have difficulty connecting to more than one device at a time. If you are currently connected to other devices and are experiencing repeated false notifications, try to disconnect to the first device and see if you continue to receive false notifications. Results will vary on this matter, depending on your phone type (particularly if you are using an Android device).
I don’t seem to get a range exit alert precisely at 30 feet.
Radio distance varies slightly from actual distance, depending on nearby materials and obstacles, so there may be a minor variance when a notification is sent. The exit notification will arrive within 60 seconds after you exit the range (time will vary, depending on your phone type).
How long will the battery last
The CR2032 coin battery should last approximately one year, depending on use. Here’s how to replace your battery.
How can I see my previous notifications?
Swipe down from the top of your screen to display your notification history.
Can I load more than one umbrella?
Davek Loss Alert can pair with only one Davek umbrella at a time. If you want to pair to a different umbrella, turn the ON/OFF switch to OFF and wait 60 seconds to receive the exit notification ("Connection Lost."). Then put the new umbrella near the phone and turn the ON/OFF switch to ON. Make sure the new umbrella is closer to the phone than the previous umbrella.

Check to see if your phone is already connected to another device (i.e. headphones, car, fitness device, etc.). The iPhone has difficulty sometimes connecting to multiple third party devices at the same time. If you are currently connected to another device, try to disconnect to the first device and see if you continue to have connection problems.
