System requirements
-
Apple: iOS 10+; iPhone version 6 or later.
-
Android: Android 8+; Optimized for Samsung Galaxy devices (performance may vary on other Android devices). Note that the app is not compatible with these devices: Huawei, One Plus, ZTE and Nokia.
How it works
Attach the sensor to your umbrella. Download the free app and then sync your phone to the sensor. Once connected, if you ever walk approximately 30 feet or more away from your umbrella, you will receive an alert on your phone within 60 seconds. Simply return within 2 feet from your umbrella to reconnect. Never accidentally leave your umbrella behind again!
Set up
Attaching the sensor to your umbrella:
-
Remove the sensor and small plastic pouch from the box.
-
Pull out the battery tab from the sensor. The sensor’s LED light should flash for 10 seconds.
-
Inside the plastic pouch are 3 circular snaps (black, white, clear). This snap will be used to secure the sensor to your umbrella’s canopy. Choose your preferred color snap for your umbrella.
-
Position the sensor on the underside of the canopy (see below for best location).
FOR APPLE IPHONE (as of OS 13.1.2 or later):
To set Location Permission to "Always Allow", follow the steps below:
- Go to Settings
- Scroll down list of apps and select Davek
- Tap on Location
- Tap on Always
-
Place the phone near the umbrella (< 2 ft).
-
To pair the umbrella to the app, slide the ON/OFF button to ON. You should receive an activation message within 10 seconds: “You are now connected to your umbrella".
You are now all set. You will be receiving an exit alert within 60 seconds after you walk out of umbrella’s range (approx. 30 ft). Once you receive an exit notification, you will need to return back to umbrella to reset the alarm. When you get close within < 2ft. of your umbrella, your phone will automatically reconnect within 30 seconds and send you a new activation alert.
The app/umbrella will remain paired unless you proactively turn off the connection (by switching the ON/OFF switch to OFF).

Do I need to turn on my app whenever I want to track my umbrella?
No. Once you pair the umbrella to the app, it will remain paired until you turn the system off. After you have last used your umbrella, the app will thereafter automatically connect within 30 seconds whenever you pick up the umbrella.
What are “false notifications?”
False notifications are alerts that are sent inadvertently when you are still within proximity of the umbrella. This sometimes occurs when the radio signal from your umbrella is interrupted by obstacles, such as metal walls, doors, or even crowds. False notifications may occur if your phone is completely covered by your hands. Also, many phones have difficulty connecting to more than one device at a time. If you are currently connected to other devices and are experiencing repeated false notifications, try to disconnect to the first device and see if you continue to receive false notifications. Results will vary on this matter, depending on your phone type (particularly if you are using an Android device).
I don’t seem to get a range exit alert precisely at 30 feet.
Radio distance varies slightly from actual distance, depending on nearby materials and obstacles, so there may be a minor variance when a notification is sent. The exit notification will arrive within 60 seconds after you exit the range (time will vary, depending on your phone type).
How long will it take for the umbrella to go into sleep mode?
The umbrella will go to sleep after it is motionless for 12 continuous hours. Once motion is detected, the 12-hour timer resets.
How long will the battery last
The CR2032 coin battery should last approximately one year, depending on use. Here’s how to replace your battery.
What is the warranty?
The Davek Alert umbrella has an unconditional lifetime guarantee. If the umbrella breaks or fails to operate as intended at any time, you may send it back to us for a brand new replacement. For new replacement, you will need to pay only for shipping and handling. If damaged umbrella is returned to us without beacon chip, there will be a $15 surcharge to replace the chip.
How can I see my previous notifications?
Swipe down from the top of your screen to display your notification history.
Can I load more than one umbrella?
Davek Loss Alert can pair with only one Davek umbrella at a time. If you want to pair to a different umbrella, turn the ON/OFF switch to OFF and wait 60 seconds to receive the exit notification ("Connection Lost."). Then put the new umbrella near the phone and turn the ON/OFF switch to ON. Make sure the new umbrella is closer to the phone than the previous umbrella.

How to change umbrella battery
I cannot connect to my umbrella.
-
Make sure that the umbrella is within 1 foot of phone when you try to connect. Activation notification may take up to 30 seconds, depending on your phone.
-
Make sure you ALLOW all permission requests (location, notifications, etc.) during app first launch Note: If you do not allow all requests, the app will not work. These permission requests only display after your first launch of the app and will not show again thereafter. If you do not recall if you allowed these permissions after first launch, delete and reinstall the app again. For Location Permission, be sure to choose "Always Allow."
-
Shake the umbrella gently for 5 seconds to restart the motion detector.
-
Check to see if your umbrella’s battery is depleted. Reinsert the battery within the umbrella's handle cap. After insertion, if the LED light does not flash, the battery must be replaced.
I am not getting an exit alert when I walk away from my umbrella.
-
Make sure the umbrella is connected to the phone: Start app and check to see if the system is turned ON. If not, hold umbrella within 2 ft of phone and slide the ON/OFF switch to ON to connect.
-
You must exceed 30 feet from umbrella to receive alert. You must stay out of range for 60 seconds to receive the exit notification.
-
Once you receive an exit alert (“Connection Lost.”), you must return back to within 2 feet of the umbrella for 30 seconds to reset the alarm.
-
If above does not resolve the problem, delete and reinstall the app. Make sure you ALLOW all permission requests (notifications, location update, etc.) during first launch. For Location permission, be sure to choose "Always Allow."
I am not getting an activation message when I retrieve my umbrella.
-
Make sure the umbrella is paired to the phone: Start app and check to see if the system is turned ON. If not, hold umbrella within 2 ft of phone and slide the ON/OFF switch to ON to connect.
-
Make sure you are within 2 feet of the umbrella for 30 seconds.
-

I am receiving repeated exit alerts even though I am near my umbrella.
-
Check to see if your phone is already connected to another device (i.e. headphones, car, fitness device, etc.). The iPhone has difficulty sometimes connecting to multiple third party devices at the same time. If you are currently connected to another device, try to disconnect to the first device and see if you continue to have connection problems.
-
Make sure that the Location setting for your app is set to "Always."
I get a range exit notification alert when I put my umbrella in my bag.
Davek Alert works best when the umbrella is exposed. Performance may vary if the umbrella in inserted into a bag (or container). Radio signal may drop, depending on the bag’s material, material thickness, and items inside. If you find you are receiving a false alert while your umbrella is inside your bag, turn the system off while it’s safely inside your bag.
The umbrella LED doesn’t flash whenever I pick up umbrella
The umbrella’s LED will flash only when awakened from sleep mode. The umbrella will go into sleep mode when no motion is experienced for 12 continuous hours. After sleep mode, if the umbrella is moved, the LED will flash indicating that the umbrella has awoken. You can also reinsert the umbrella battery to force the LED to flash.
